I probably know more anime titles than most Westerners, especially since some titles to date are still not licensed for North America. I had a strong love and knowledge of anime. Otaku HQ ( ) originally began as an anime news and affiliate site. What is Otaku HQ? What does it mean? What is the website about? How does your website work? You might be surprised to know that I am not really good at public-speaking, but doing this definitely helps me get better for my day job as a freelancer. Last time I checked, I am probably the only one doing a figure-topic panel in Vancouver. I have tried to do Q&A panels in the past in other conventions, but I found people quickly lose interests and left early if I have nothing to present, and many people are actually pretty shy to ask questions, even if there are not that many people in the room. Timing is a big factor here, as the convention I picked to go, (Anime Revolution), normally runs in August, and Wonder Festival (Summer edition) is always set for the end of July, so it does give me a small window to gather all the new announcements from WonFes and present it in a panel format. I believed it was a good way to promote my site, as I have tons of traffic from the US, but interestingly not so much from Canada. I did not plan on presenting in a panel setting at all when I started Otaku HQ, but in 2012 I started to have an itch to try it, with the local Anime convention scene gaining popularity (we have two anime-cons in Vancouver). You can say I am practically a walking encyclopedia when it comes to these items.Įach year, February and July are pretty important for all figure collectors: KAIYODO’s Wonder Festival, is a 1-day event which showcase anyone who wants to make a figure out of any anime/game/manga characters, and for the past 10 years or so, most of the manufacturers in the figure industry have also been there to show their latest products and upcoming plans.

What do you present on? Why?Īfter working on Otaku HQ for close to 10 years, as well as being an anime fan since being a little kid, I am pretty much on top of all the latest PVC figure releases (I check all the official sites, plus any news and rumors sites daily, and being a collector myself). You present each year at the Anime Revolution. Ricepaper decided to take some time to interview him for a better understanding of his quest to spread his passion. Felix has been a frequent speaker at anime and manga conferences and festivals. What began as a personal hobby for him has emerged into a business and an online following. This is pretty much the perfect prove -for myself at least- that it is a decent show.Felix Ho is the founder of Otaku HQ, an online website that specializes in PVC Figures, Action Figures and Model Kits with the latest news on new production runs and adjusted release dates from all the manufacturers.

The series made a good job on making me forget that I was watching an anime. I only recall the video game BGM from episode 1. When it comes to the OST, I have been too busy giggling at the cute romance scenes so I completely did not pay attention to any of the songs or if there even were any present. It has chosen the safe route, which is fine. Nothing note-worthy in terms of good or bad. The art and animation are rather typical. This is something to which I typically pay a lot attention, but this time our side characters are actually real characters and not filler people. At first, the side characters seem pretty dull, and come off quite comedic, but soon turns out they are pretty much the same as our main pair, just not in the lead role in this series. The overall execution makes Wotakoi seem like a feel-good series. The actual romance between them is super cute and innocent. Arguably very smart choice when considering the nature of this series. They are just normal, realistic folks who are doing the slice of life thingy. The main characters don't feel very special nor memorable.

The series is full of gamer memes that feel very accurate to 90's kids (which our main characters also are). The comedy -especially after the first 2 episodes- is genius.

These characters are honest and don't spend 15 episodes pondering over how to convey. Wotakoi has very direct dialogue, People say what they think and don't hide inside their shells. Apparently they aren't very confident about their own hobbies so naturally they go and announce their otaku lifestyle in a manner similar to "yes, I am a vegan" meme. Gamer guy who wears glasses and yaoi fangirl who acts like a tomboy. Review By Kamal K Wotakoi is a romance between young adults.
